Hebrews 6 Devotion

What does sitting on the fence mean? “To remain neutral, to refuse to take sides in a dispute; often used in a derogatory way about someone who lacks the courage to decide: “The councilman is afraid he’ll lose votes if he takes sides on the zoning issue, but he can’t sit on the fence forever.”” (dictionary.com). “How well I have learned that there is no fence to sit on between Heaven and Hell. There is a deep, wide gulf, a chasm, and in that chasm is no place for any man.” (Johnny Cash). In this sixth chapter of Hebrews we get a clear message from the author.  We need to know the Christian basics, pick the side of Christ, and fight for the kingdom. “Those who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the power of the age to come— and who then turn away from God. It is impossible to bring such people back to repentance; by rejecting the Son of God, they themselves are nailing him to the cross once again and holding him up to public shame. When the ground soaks up the falling rain and bears a good crop for the farmer, it has God’s blessing. But if a field bears thorns and thistles, it is useless. The farmer will soon condemn that field and burn it.” (Hebrews‬ ‭6:5-8‬ ‭NLT‬‬). Those who have truly truly truly experienced the resurrected Jesus will show the fruit of Christ because of their salvation. Will they be perfect? No! Will they have times of doubt? Yes! But they will choose the side of the fence that chooses Jesus wholeheartedly. They will not sit atop the fence tottering from side to side. “Great leaders are not proverbial fence sitters. They judge. They opine. They challenge. They fight for their vision.” (Gad Saad). Today, make sure you are off the fence and living for Jesus. Give yourself and pep talk and get out there and have an awesome day on purpose for the kingdom of God.

Questions 1.) What is something in life or a topic that people tend to “ride the fence on?”  2.) What is something that you personally “sit on the fence about?” (something you don’t take sides on)
